đź‘‹ Introducing Brick Box Games
Cole and I didn’t set out to start a board game company. We NEVER expected to be here. But after years of Catan, Secret Hitler, D&D, and other games with our college friends, we are here nonetheless.
Throughout college Cole and I had the vague idea that it could be nice to someday make a game together. However, after graduating, getting through the pandemic, and beginning our careers, life started getting in the way of that silent pact. Honestly, we had not played Catan or Secret Hitler in years. Game sessions were few and far between, and getting and staying in touch was becoming more difficult. Adult life, huh? At the end of the day, we were still the same people with the same ideas and the same creative passions. At my job, I kept getting pulled into messy workplace politics and couldn’t stop thinking about how those dynamics might play out in a game. I put my thoughts into a note on my phone and didn’t look at them again. Until…
By chance, on a group camping trip, the topic of board games came up. I mentioned my loose idea for a system of competing incentives and Cole immediately said we should talk more. Cole had been building homebrew worlds for his D&D campaigns for years and wanted to dedicate time to crafting a grand sci-fi universe with complex politics. Turns out our ideas for the type of world we wanted to explore fit together perfectly.
With relationships, work, and other hobbies and responsibilities, our time was already very limited. We committed to the bare minimum for design discussions but kept our meetings consistent. Six months of weekly design meetings turned into playtests, and our game finally started to feel real. Real enough to start a company.
We hope you enjoy our creation.
